Year 5 - Miss Allen

  • Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you have had an exciting and restful holiday and are ready for the adventure ahead in Year 5!

In Year 5, we are starting the year as we mean to go on- working hard whilst having as much fun as possible! We will be embedding our new school rules: Be ready, Be respectful and Be safe and incorporating our school values into everything we do.

    We come to school to

Dream Big, Aim High and Shine Bright!

    Year 5 Long Term Planning

This term we are learning about…

  • P.E

This term we have P.E on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
Please make sure your child has a full P.E kit in school. This includes: white or grey t-shirt, black shorts (jogging bottoms and leggings are acceptable for the winter) and P.E plimsolls or trainers. This term’s P.E topics are basketball and sports hall athletics.
  • Reading

Reading books will be sent home daily and we encourage children to read at home as often as possible. If reading books are not returned weekly, then a letter will be sent home. Please make sure reading records are signed so children receive their well-deserved reading awards!

  • The expectation in Year 5 is that children manage their own learning at home.
Children are expected to read their book and practise weekly spellings. The hard work children put in at home can make a huge difference to their progress in school.
Knowing your times tables is a vital skill that will help your child in all areas of mathematics. Children are encouraged to practise these  using the Times Tables Rockstars website/app at home.
Login details can be found in their reading record.

  • Well done to our star of the week…

  • Upcoming Dates

Please look out for important upcoming events in Year 5

  • Class Gallery

Look at all of the fun we have in Year 5!

In Year 5, we hope to instil a love of reading, for pleasure and for purpose. This term we are reading Private Peaceful as part of our work to commemorate the centenary of World War 1.

Which books are you reading at home for pleasure?
