Year 3 - Miss Melia

  •

This is what we are doing in Autumn Terms One and Two!

    Homework

    • Children should practise their spellings each week in preparation for their test every Friday.
    • New spellings will be sent home on Friday.
    • Children should read at home as often as possible. If they read at home 12 times and have their reading book signed each time, they will receive a certificate in assembly. They should read their reading book where possible, but should also read other suitable reading materials e.g. books they have at home.

In addition, we will provide a homework sheet showing the core spellings for Year 3 and the login details for the websites below.

    • Children will be asked to access Times Table Rockstars online at home each week to support their Maths work.
    • Children will be asked to access Bug Club online at home each week to support their reading.

    P.E

P.E will be on a Monday and Wednesday. Children should come to school equipped with a full, appropriate P.E kit.

Our Star of the Week is Kaydee. This was awarded for superb dedication to self-improvement!

    • Thank you very much to all parents who brought in a glass jar! Check our class gallery for some fantastic rain-in-a-jar pictures!

    Reading

    • Reading with your child every day is the best thing you can do to help them.
    • Read to them and let them follow along.
    • Listen to them read. Just a few minutes every day helps. They can read any appropriate text they wish, whether that is their school book, their own book, or a newspaper.
    • Ask them questions! This helps them understand what they have read which is a very important skill.

    Spellings

    • Your child will be given a spelling list each week. The weekly spellings can be practised on the paper given or the children can practise saying each letter out loud to you.
    • Practising each day helps the most but every little bit counts!
    • Check your child knows what each word means (This will be discussed on a Monday at school so don’t worry if they are unsure.)
    • Challenge your child to write their spelling words in a sentence.

    Times Tables

    • Encourage your child to log in to their Times Tables Rock Stars account if they are allowed internet access.
    • Practise saying the times tables! Sing them, whisper them, shout them (perhaps not late at night!) – it all helps!
    • Test them on a few calculations at a time e.g. in one week you might only focus on 1 x 3 = 3, 2 x 3 = 6 and 3 x 3 = 9
