Inclusion and Families Working Together

  • Parent and Child After school Clubs are an important part of our offer at West View Primary School.  Parents can attend the clubs alongside their child and siblings are also welcome making the experience a whole family approach.  The clubs involve different crafts, games and themed nights.  The clubs are Parent and Child lead so activities are based on whatever families would like to engage in.  Clubs are crucial for building relationships with parents/carers and offering another means of communication from the Inclusion Team.

We’ve had some excellent feed back from Parents/Carers in relation to the Parent and Child After school Clubs:

    Year 2 Parent

I like that its varied.  Different every week.  There’s no cost to it.  It’s good bonding time with your child too.  My children started West View late too so I’ve managed to get friendly with some of the other parents that have attended.

    Year 1 Parent

I really enjoy it.  You get to see the children’s work on the wall in the classroom too.  It’s an hour with the kids in the school setting and I like that.  I look forward to it and so do the kids.  They ask every day, ‘Is it craft club tonight Mam?’

    Year 3 Parent

I think it’s really good that parents are involved.  Some parents might not have the resources at home.  It’s easier to work together as a family in the school setting.  I liked it when we made the memory jars.

    Year 3 Parent

I love after school club.  It’s extra time with my child to do crafts together.  I like that you give the children the choice to choose what they want to do too.

    Year 2 Parent

My child loves to come to socialise with her friends.  She never wants to miss it and if I’m at work someone has to take her, either my Mam or her Auntie.

    Year 2 Parent

I think the club is a really good idea.  My daughters older sibling comes too and pretends that he doesn’t like it but he really does.  It’s good for the parents to get together too as we don’t get to talk much when on the school run. It’s good to do craft things because you might not get time to do them as a family at home, so it’s time as a family too.

    Year 2 Parent

We all love it, even my youngest child that isn’t attending West View yet.  She knows which day we go.  She loves it that they get juice and biscuits too.

    Year 1 Parent

I like it.  It’s good for our quality time together.  I think we should try and do more activities.  Sometimes we finish our crafts and then do colouring pages but we should do more crafts too.

Some of our children gave their views too:

    Year 1 Child

    I just love crafts!

    Year 2 Child

I like the activities and seeing Mrs Brown.  I also like the biscuits.

    Year 2 Child

I liked making the pizzas and spending time with my family and my friends.

Year 5 Child (sibling in Year 2 club)

It’s fun.  I liked making the craft where it was a paper plate made into a wheel and we had to put the tings on that we appreciated.

Year 6 Child (sibling to Year 3 child)

I loved making the Christmas biscuits!

    Year 3 Child

I liked the Easter crafts that we did last year.

    Year 3 Child

My favourite thing about Wednesday club is that I get to spend time with my family and be creative.

    Year 1 Child

I liked making the jars and decorating the rocks.
